I'll be the first to admit it, my internet sucks, hardcore. It tends to lag randomly, randomly drop, etc. and its a wired connection on an expensive box. Now this comes to AOEO because in AOEO if you hiccup a little the game drops you instantly and you lose all progress on the mission you were on. This is quite bad when you're like me and drop an hour on a mission, literally 10% of a Town Center from winning, and then get dropped. I've lost so many hours of gameplay and its draining my will to play sometimes when this happens.
My Proposal:
If the game detects a disconnect from a player, instead of kicking to title screen and closing, it should pause the current match (if you're non Co-Op only) and say "Connection Lost - Please Wait" with a button that says "Main Menu", you can hit Main Menu to instantly drop to main menu and quit the game, or if you leave it on Please Wait you can try to re-establish your connection to unpause and continue the game. This will have a limit (so you can't say discon yourself for a free unlimited pause)
There are several posts asking for an in quest save feature in case of dropped connections. e.g. http://forums.ageofempiresonline.com/forums/96182/ShowThread.aspx#96182
I hope the devs address these issues sooner rather than later. I have lost quest progress because of a drop several times already.

Totally agree, my internet was dodgy recently, the power levels in the modem fluctuated too much and caused disconnects, a nice Virgin man came and fixed it.
But I must have lost 50k in xp

This is a MUST.
I just got disconnected as I was hunting down the last damned enemy after clearing out the rest of an entire map, which had taken me ages. My net hadn't even gone down, it must have just flickered or something. Now I have to repeat the whole stupid long mission!
