Here are some features that would give the game more value if properly priced:
- A world map divided into territories which can be claimed by some sort of civ/guild/clan/alliance system. That way Greeks vs Egyptians (and eventually other civs) can battle it out in a meta-game for control over territories which provide bonus resources/gold/items/units to whoever controls them. This would give more meaning to PVP and bring it beyond what older AOE games did.
- A better commerce/trade system where I can easily check current auctions and prices for items put up for sale by other players without painstakingly spamming the chat channel to try to find someone selling the item I need. One cool idea would be a trade city, kind of like Sparta is the PVP city, the trade city could be full of player owned shops and places for auctions etc.
- A scenario editor
- Hotkeys underlined in the UI
- The ability to save
- The ability to play custom maps/skirmishes/random maps vs AI in order to practice (apparently this feature is on it's way, but for a price. DON'T MAKE US PAY FOR FEATURES THAT OUGHT TO BE INCLUDED!)
Small tweaks to make the game experience smoother:
- Auto-scouting (like in Rise of Nations)
- Idle workers automatically attempt to find work (like in Rise of Nations)
- An easy way to compare gear when shopping
- Fix crappy AI (I spent the entire hold the fort quest without a single battle when the random map generator added waterseparatingme from the enemy)
- CO-OP for more than 2 players!
- Garrison military units!
- better group management of unit group with siege/priest units (so that the priests/siege don't pointlessly charge at the enemy and die defenceless)
- Chat while waiting for CO-OP or PVP, a PVP dedicated chat channel would be nice (kind of like the lobby in AOE III)
- More detailed unit stats to know exactly what you're upgrading and fine tune strategies. Also helps when calculating cost/benefit ratios for any given unit.
- Allowequippingoutside of the capital city, there is no reason to limit it to there.
- Improve pathing
- improve UI, the chat UI sucks and is hard to use. Perhaps allow for a customizable UI?
Until then I have purchased the Greek civ pack on good faith that the game will get better, but at this point there is no way you can convince me to spend 100+$ on a few months of content from a game that comes off as incomplete and less featured that it's predecessors. If AOEO ends up having half the civs AOE I, II or III had, we're going to be paying hundreds of dollars a year just to be able to use the civs we used to get bundled in from the start! I seriously doubt I'm the only one who has a serious objection to the direction this game has taken.

I agree with you. Although hotkeys are fine for me.
|||Yeah, hotkeys work. I should clarify that I just mean that they aren't specified like they are in other AOE games (the hotkey was underlined in the interface, now you just have to guess or quit the game to go look for a reference)|||- A world map on which other players cities are spread out, maybe divided into civs/clans/alliances so there can be a meta-game where each civ/clan/alliance is battling it out against each other for more territory/resources (this has become a standard feature in most web-based RTS games)
No.. no, no, no.... total immersion breaker for my city.. I like the idea of this big city state in the northern part of the Greek Peninsula instead of being a dot in map 109.60
- A better commerce/trade system where I can easily check current auctions and prices for items put up for sale by other players without painstakingly spamming the chat channel to try to find someone selling the item I need
Yes!
- A scenario editor
Yes! although they're probably gonna charge much money for it :(
- Hotkeys and the ability to save
Hotkeys: pretty the same as all the other AOE games, right? Save: Yes!
- The ability to play custom maps/skirmishes/random maps vs AI in order to practice
They're gonna do that but they will charge you 10 bucks for it... :( Really... I too have premium Greek with the assumption the game will approve, but that a Skirmish Hall's gonna cost you that much money is just silly....
|||Agreed!
I wasn't really thinking so much along the lines of having a huge map with your city as a little dot, more of maybe having territories that alliances/civs/guilds could fight over. Your city wouldn't necessarily have to be in that given territory.
Maybe you'd have a world map divided into territories and owning a given territory would give the owning group a bonus (materials generated, gold income, a special unit etc.). People can't actually take over your home city or anything like that. I'm just thinking it'd be really cool if there was some sort of cross-civ meta-game to give PVP more meaning than it does now, because right now it's no different then what we've had since the original AOE. It could bring up some really great friendly competition between Greek and Egyptian players by having them battle it out against each other for control of bonuses.
|||I agree with you! Features and price leave a lot to be desired.
Released at retail people would scoff at a $100 price tag. To think this is only 6 months of updates is laughable.
This is a new business model for the series, one that could prove successful. Why not give early adopters lifetime updates for $50, common retail PC game price, and go up with demand. Seeing the pricing scheme made me decide against purchasing any content.
Thanks AOE Online for the few good hours of fun. Good luck!
|||Hi ASock,
They definitely need a new pricing scheme, but I actually think 50$ is too low. If you think about the old age of games, they all came out for standard retail price, but later on had expansions priced around 30$. If you count the initial game plus expansions, it comes out to around 100$. I would definitely agree that 100$ for only 6 months is above and beyond ridiculous, with AOE III 100$ essentially got you 3 years worth of updates.
So I'm willing to pay 100$, just not for what they are offering.I think that what they are currently offering for 100$ should be priced at 50$ (or less considering how many of the original age of features it lacks), but I would gladly pay another 25$ or so every 6 months for significantly new content and updates. I would love to see a premium subscription for 25$ per six months for full access. It would be a nice low entry price for those who are just curious. Those who play for free right now and aren't quite sure if they want to commit are probably being scared off by the high prices. If they saw that they could just pay 25$ for full access to see if they like it and have the option to keep going if they do, we'd see a lot more peoplecommitto the game. For those who do commit, Microsoft would make 250$ per player for those who stick with it for 5 years (the approximate duration of this game I'm guessing) and by then they can make a second one and keep those same subscribers on for the next 5 years.
All that being said, I love AOE and I love the potential for this game. I said I'd be willing to pay 25$, so I did and got the greek premium. I've been enjoying myself so far, and think that supporting the game by buying a premium civ is a great way to give incentive to microsoft to continue to update and lower prices. I encourage everyone to do the same, but completely understand those who simply refuse to pay theexorbitantprices.
|||Hey guys,
Please post to the AOEO facebook page and keep bumping this thread to bring these issues to the attention of Gas Powered Games and Microsoft! If you want a better game it looks like we'll have to fight for it!
Post the link to this thread and/or your suggestions for improvements on their Facebook page!

|||I agree it would be great to have a realm vs realm map were you can start a outpost to fight for control of land and/or resourses and/or bonnussen. Your main city remains as it is now.
So realm vs realm is one thing it also would be great to make a a map were everybody is on there own like a (team) deathmatch map, See how long you last or form alliance's with other players. If you log out your city can't be attacked i think.
It always gives me far more pleasure to play a game were you never know whats gonne happen, and where players make the content then rather playing developpers premade content.
I realy hope it becomes a feature in the future.
(sorry for spelling I am dutch)
|||@ solas5.... the idea of having these clan terratories I do like!! ^.^^|||I understand the point about expansions, however I can buy a full game at $50 and decide on the expansion later. AOE 3 had 8 civilizations for $50 and expansions were followed by complete collections or gold editions at a reduced rate. 1 civilization for $20 in AOE Online is too much even if the game wasn't missing features.
I would do 6m at $25 hoping good content is on the way. The $100 for 6m doesn't even tell you everything you get. A savings of over 30%? Maybe, would be nice if that claim were backed up in the description.
Supporting the work done by developers is great. Buying the content will have the exact opposite affect on lowering prices.If anything, it encourages them to continue. The game has a lot of potential, but generally free to play games do not require the monetary commitment AOE Online is trying.
i agree and try to add durability to weapons and armor this way will improve the trading in-game like after 10-15 matches this is for uncommon for rare should be 20-30 and epic same but with possibility to repair them with empire points or gold that will cost allot depends on lvl you will need to get new weapons or armor only those that you use i mean if you build a barracks if will drop the infantry armor and weapons after the match so if you build barracks and siege weapons it will drop just the barracks and siege weapons gear
|||so true to agree too.nice post concluding everything
