We're going there! All the way to the new world before it was even new! Yes many see them unfitting, but Mayans are timely, and would also fit in AoE2 timeline more seemlessly than any other civ known.
Gimmicks: First off, no horses! Secondly, sturdy walls and towers. Thirdly, some military units have an 'aura' that can debuff a stat, and stacks with groups... let's look at the Mayans!
The big thing, besides naturally having some some of resource conservation... maybe 5%, 10 at max is that almost every unit does anti-cavalry damage to balance their lack of any unit with a speedgreat than9.
They also run on sacrifices.Killing animals or enemy units willpush youcloser to the nextage, and cheapen its cost. Or time will do the same for the Mayans did have a Calander that is soon to be reset.
Mayans can rush boom or turtle very effectively, but their lack of cavalry is forever present at all times!
Note, multi-pop slot Mayans are limited to repairable units.
Barracks
Macana: A basic spear/sword weapon that deals bonus against infantry and alsocavalry. Moves fairly fast. Age 1
Macuahuitl: A club weapon with an edge that can bash in siege weapons or cut down infantry. Negligable bonus damage to horses. Age 2
Eagle Warrior: A very fast soldier with an obsidian sword. His eagle feathers scare enemies to reduce a percentage of their armor. This effect can stack from up to 10 Eagle Warriors.Age 4.
Archery Range
Atlatl: A launcher of giant darts/spears! Deals damage bonus to infantry and to cavalry. Age2 unit, has a slight minimum range.
Blowgun: Shoots a poisonous dart at an enemy. It's snare is great, but it also DoTs the enemy with poison. The effect can stack from up to 10 Atls. Oddly, the venom can effect contraptions and ships, though not structures. Doesn't have any advantages... or true weaknesses.
Plumed Archer: A speedy bowman with decent durability and anti-infantry powers. Their aura reduces attack damage. Age 4
Fortress (Doubles as a Temple)
Shaman: Highly effective at both conversion and healing. If you delete a recently converted unit or if it dies before getting converted, you can 'sacrifice' it to regain some of its cost and empower the shaman's next conversion. Age 3. Due to this effectivesness, he needs 2 pop slots but he's ery durable.
Bloodletter: Heals your units and sacrifices enemy units. After2 seconds of channelling, he will strike an enemy, shaving 30% of their health. If they die from it or 2 seconds later, they're sacrificed.
Siege Contraption: Though it needs no packing or unpacking, this contraption is less durable than a Pantinlonlon. Age 4
Siege Workshop
Obsidian Ram: An unwieldy Siege Weapon with a powerful ramhead of Obsidian. It can crack a wall right quick! Age 3.
Obsidian Launcher: A ballista resembler that launches powerful Obsidian bolts. Age 4
Arrow Launcher: A sturdy moving fortress pretty much. This pushed woodedbox on wheels lets archers inside deal pierce damage comparable to foot archers. They're really sturdy though. Age 3.
Docks
Canoes! Yes, siege engine canoes included and fire throwing canoes! Obsidian plated, sturdy canoes are resistant to fire! DON'T ASK ME HOW THEY STAND UP TO TRIREMES! Their fishing is very good and canoe unitscan be healed by Shaman because they're so visibly manned.
Technologies: Mayan civilization will have lots of obsidian and religious techs to tote!
|||I like it, but there is just one small problem, mayans are far far closer in the history.|||That is so wrong you don't know how wrong you are.
If you look up Mayans and BCE times, you'll find Mayans in BCE times. You failed man! Go back to history!
|||Edit: Somehow double posted... I accept whatever fate befalls me!
|||Mayas existed during the Greek times and interestingly they were very
similar to the Greeks. They possessed an exquisite knowledge of
astronomy, mathematics, and religion. They were also divided into
warring city-states against each other
The Maya we meet in AoE2:Conquerors were whoever was left
after a major decline, but during the Classical Era, they developed
many of the traits that made them definable as the Maya people for centuries.
This was my idea of how the Mayan Civilization could work.
Gimmicks:
1) Age Up requires possession of a certain number of Town Centers. Representing the multiple and independent communities, the Maya can build additional Town Centers from the start, increasing their limit as they age further and further.
2) Due to the lack of horses and cavalry, instead of using the Barracks/Range/Stable system, they utilize the War Hut and Noble's Hut. The War Hut specializes in Quick units (faster than average foot-troops, slower than cavalry) that are cheap, but effective when massed. The Noble's Hut has more iconic troops that either power up their own forces or weaken enemy forces. Additionally, due to the lack of effective metal armor, they are not given units that are strong vs. ranged.
3) Resource conservation. The Maya resources last longer. A villager will gather 10 points, but only 9 will be deducted from the actual source.
Palace (Town Center equivalent. Resource drop-off, market source Age 1)
Can train Villagers and Merchants (Two guys carrying a large package, with gold dangling in front of them).
Village (Storehouse/House, the same size as a farm Age 1)
War Hut (Age 1)
Batab Warriors: Quick commoners, armed with a macana club. Weak units, but easy to mass. Bonus damage to infantry. Costs 1 pop. (Age 1)
Holkan Spearman: Quick warriors armed with a spear and wooden shield. Weak units, but easy to mass. Bonus damage to cavalry. Costs 1 pop. (Age 2)
Slingers: Quick missile unit, rains stones effectively upon unarmored units. Good range. Bonus damage to ranged. Costs 1 pop. (Age 2)
Hornet Nest Throwers: Unorthodox unit and short-ranged. Tosses a hornet's nest into enemy lines causing chaos and damaging enemies over time. Costs 2 pop. (Age 3)
Noble's Hut (Age 2)
Eagle Warrior: Elite soldiers of the Yucatan with a legacy spanning the lands. Their costume is a sign of their noble rank in society.
A powerful soldier armed with an obsidian-edged wooden spear, feathered shield, and a terrifying eagle costume. Each Eagle
Warrior reduces up to 5 nearby units' damage by a percentage. Bonus damage to cavalry. Costs 2 pop. (Age 2).
Plumed Archer: High ranking archers, known for their prowess as warriors and their intimidating plumed outfit.
A great archer with colorful decor and high durability. Each Plumed Archer reduces up to 5 nearby units' armor by a percentage. Bonus damage to infantry. Costs 2 pop. (Age 3)
War Shaman: A mystic attuned with the spirits, serving as advisor and war leader to the nobility.
A quick melee unit, armed with a
maquahuitl (obsidian-edged wooden sword). Each War Shaman increases up to 5 nearby units attack power. Great for breaking enemy defenses.
Costs 2 pop. (Age 4)
Great Temple (Age 3, Fortress/Temple fusion)
Medicine Man: Effective healer. When out of combat, heals multiple units that are not in combat with great range. During combat, has a small range and can only target one unit in combat. Costs 1 pop. (Age 3)
Kukulcan Priest: Slow, durable, and powerful units. Capable of converting multiple units and can convert enemy religious buildings without an upgrade required. Costs 2 pop. (Age 4)
Observatory (University/Siege Workshop, Age 4) - Source of many Maya upgrades.
Obsidian Ram: That just sounds awesome.
Wheeled Bulwark: A great stone box on wheels. Pushed by a bunch of guys in it, with a slitted top to launch a large amount of atl-atls (large darts/spears) at a great range.
Keeper's Hut (Outpost, increases movement speed of nearby units) - A small hut with a large round calender disc in the back, and smaller calender discs in the front.
Docks: Standard
Armory: Standard
And as for now, too tired to think of anything else.

Well, I did give them new aging methods via sacrifices: In age 1, you must either kill a deer, an enemy unitor wait 2 minutes. After that, the age up is available cheaply and quickly at a Storage. To reach Silver Age, you must wait 7 minutes or kill 5 more units. To reach age 4, you must wait 10 more minutes or kill 23 foes/animals. Deleting your own units doesn't count.
Thoughts?
|||I love the idea of the Mayans. The age up idea is confusing to me but everything else sounds incredible!
Mayans have always been my most favorite aoe2 civilization.
