As interesting as a zombie hoard would be...
I wouldn't mind seeing a 'horde' mode in a similar vein to the 'Homers Run' mission. The players start in a defencive position in the middle of the map, a horde city on one or two of the corners and 4 or so passive NPC towns scattered around. The 'horde' attacks the players town and the NPC towns randomly and every time in conqures a town, the town switches sides and further adds to the horde.
Victory conditions could be either conquer and drive the horde back, or just simply survive it for a fixed amount of time.
I must say cheezethief's version appeals to me more. I love zombies, but just not in AOE. The futuristic style that comes with calling something zombie doesn't go well with the mythological style and lore that is in AOEO at the moment.
I would hate for them to throw that out the window.
One of the biggest appeals for me to AOE III was how accurate the civilisations were, and how they tried to stay as close to the history as possible. Adding a zombie mode would betray any attempt of doing so.
|||Rather than having a zombie mode(which obviously not everyone wants), why not instead support having a custom scenario builder(you know like a map editor), that way players could create their own quests, adding zombies or whatever they want, whilst not impacting the play of others who aren't into it.
The scenario editor would need to be quite versatile, but looking back at previous AoE you'll see a huge number of custom scenarios and maps were available from all around the web, this is the first AoE that hasn't supported user made content.
Such a thing would need to seperate from the online world, but perhaps "custom scenarios" or "custom maps" could be a optional feature in the Skirmish pack. I'd like to see Skirmish patched into the game(and not as a pack) myself, but that's for another topic, and i wanted to address how it could be handled before someone jumped into say, "How could that work in the online aoe world" or similar..
No.... just, no...
Stop trying to turn a good game into the Twilight films...

ahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahaa... /cry
That was funny!
|||You do know that agypt kings in the fantasy sometimes walk around as mummies, do you? Now what thing do zombies and mummies share? hm Bingo they both are UNDEAD
So why there shouldnt be corpses animmated by necromancers if priests are able to heal wounds with magic? Unless you come up with facts about agptian priests who had true healing abilites....
And the connection between zombies and science fiction i dont understand..anyway lol watched to much resident evil or what? ^^ zombies and skeletons are the very lowest kind of undead in fantasy.

It would be a good idea but it is *** fortune to add this feature in a game like Age Of Empires Online. How do you see things could work out for that people could make their own quests and maps etc...regarding it's an online game?
So i would prefer still a zombie mode instead of a custom UI or some builders...
|||In Starcraft you can make custom maps with scripts and they work just fine. Game downloads all the datarequired once you are willing to play on the map somebody added.
If you don't like it you don't play it. However with all thislevellingjunk it could get complicated. Even something as simple as friend joining you at moment he saw you playing is notimpossible. Just last day my girlfriend saw the game on my laptop and wanted to PvP me, but wasn't able to because of levels.Appearsshe would need level 10 or something to play PvP. Pity, because we liked to kickeach othersasses in Starcraft and Red Alert.
A lot of online games do that since Half-Life as far as I remember. And it worksbrilliant!
As for zombey scenario. It would be cool to get killed anyway. Like survival mode then the question is how long you will manage to survive, understanding that there's no helpcomingand your brains will be eaten in any case.
|||In all of the age of empire games they have had at least some historical truth. Zombies I'm sorry to say have never invaded in hordes............
I have only played the demo of crete. And it is fine. I would support custom maps although it might get to rigged of you get xp. But like the map builders in the other age of empire games i would support for pvp or vs computers like custom maps on starcraft.
Sounds like something they should do on Halloween...
Beware the mummies!
