The Iberians are an interesting peoples indeed, Spain always seems that way.
Gimmicks: Iberian soldiers use dang fine weapons of a quality iron that is almost steel! Their true strength lies in their mix of geurilla tactics mixed with their sturdy walls and hillforts called castros and oppidums for walled cities. Even Hannibal had trouble with the Iberians. In any case, Iberian soldiers lack heavy archers, but they have spearthrowers and slings. Interestingly, these units can fire while retreating for Iberians are one of the first known Geurilla armies. They do have an Archery Range though no true bowman.
Fortresses cost 20% less and build 10% faster, but good luck findings lots of units to train there. On the flipside, Iberian technology is a bit more limited! There's no university/academy/research building!
Barracks
Caetran Pugio: A Caetra (Round Shield) shield wielding daggerman, defensive against melee with a light cavalry bonus as they aim for the horse's knees. Cheap but very poke oriented.
Falcata: The Iberian sword, sharp like steel, can cut enemies down if they're light armored infantry. Age 2.
Espasa: The other sword. Espasas have all around durability and power worthy of Age 3 infantry.
Archery Range
Belearic Slinger: Drafted from the offshore Spanish island of the same namesake, these are awesome slingers. Belearic slingers counter unmounted units well, though archers not as well as other slingers. They canmove while aiming, though the damage after launch is slightly reduced. Age 1. Yes, there's age 1 Archery range.
Javelin: Akin to a Pilum, it is lobbed with great force. Bonus damageto enemies who wield shields. Age 2.
Saunion: The heavy javelin; itis set on fire, a not unheard of practice in Iberia. It does extra to ships and siege, but not buildings and like other ranged Iberians, you can Geurilla with it. Hits very hard! Age 4.
Stable
Spear Cavalry: Armed with a Scutum (Large Shield) and a spear, these are the anti-cavalry. They do bonus to other cavalry and are fast and sturdy against arrows. Age 2.
Iberian Knight: Heavy Iberian cavalry in chainmail with an Espasa. Costs3 pop slots but is very durable. Age 4
Fortress
Pantinlonlon: Basic siege engine. Same as always.
Siege Workshop
Siege Weapons have an Iberian vibe. They actually cost and use less pop slots, but are less brutal up front compared to say... Greek Siege or Sumerian.
Temple
Priest: A basic Priest much like the Greek. Almost the same in playstyle.
Navy
The Iberian navy is not too bad. It's not as wonderful as maybe Carthaginian Persianor Greek, but it should be viable at sea. Spain is a penninsula after all.
|||Good idea! They should includ the Iberians in the game.|||Thing about the Iberians is that they could not be confused for Celts, unlike other socalled barbarians.|||
Iberian civilization should not be confused with Spain. Spain is composed by different civilizations: the Iberian civilization near the mediterranean sea, Aquitanian (now Basques) in the north and south of the cantabrian pyrenees, the Celtiberian in central and northwest, Lusitanian in western peninsular and Tartesian in the southwest.
All of these civilizations had (the Basques have) different languages and customs. In conclusion, we can not put them together because they are not the same.
|||You see to like the Basque people. Why not start a thread with a civ idea writeup and I'll add it to the Index if its good enough|||I would like to do, but my English level is medium and I am not qualified to start a thread about the Basque civilization.
P.D.: I am basque
