There aren't any Samurai or Ninjas... There are some crazy good, cost effective cavalry and mounted archers and supplimentary unmounted units of awesome proportions! They can draw from Yayoi and Jomon eras that came before them.
Gimmick: Jomōn/Yayoi/Yamato units are not built for early rushing finishes: they are built to raid and cripple the enemy economy while booming safely into a late game heavy cavalry powerhouse. Their economy is good, not superb, but Storehouses naturally cost 20% less, allowing them to boom more easily and save wood for the archers! It also means you might be able to forgoe the Startech in favor of something else. Even still, 33% MORE reduction never hurts.
Barracks
Bisentō: The basic spearman. Less effective against cavalry, but more effective as an actual general unit. Age 1.
Masakari: The Japanese Battle axe user. Effective at cutting down walls and infantry. Age 2.
Yari: Heavy spearman, slow, sturdy... destroys cavalry cost effectively and elephants will be skewered! Is immune to trample.Age 4 available
Archery Range
Light Yabusame:Age2 available... yes they have an age2 cavArcher. Yabusame do bonus damage to spear units religious units, and villagers but are frail and use 2 pop slots. They are very fast and excellent and ruining starts, but tend to lose later game effectiveness.
Yumi: Age3 foot archer. They usean ancient Japanese techniquethat causesthem to dobonus damage against EVERYTHING! In consequence, everything except infantry, does slightbonus damage to them.
Heavy Yabusame: A slower, less hit and runny Yabusame, it trades speed and fire rate for power and good durability. It also needs 3 pop slots. Age 4 unit.
Stable
Light Kihei: Fast Light Cavalry with a basicspearthat is good at beating horses and villagers. They tend to be beaten by almost everything else butfavorable to them, they cost one pop slot.Age 2 available.
Masakari Kihei: The cavalry armed with a Masakari. An anti infantry mounted unit. Not as fast as the Kiso rider, but gets the job done. Age 3 available.
Heavy Kihei: Armed with a sword, these juggernauts on sturdy ponies breach enemy lines and can cause trample to foes as they move. They take less from any camel riders and can beat back line and siege units. Age 4 available.
Temple
Shinto Priest: Basic healer and converter.
Warrior Monk: An infantry healer. Fights with a Masakari and does slight bonus vs infantry. Can heal out of battle but costs a bit of gold.
Docks
It's almost unfair: Japanese ships have bonus health and slightly greater reach. This makes them a very capable naval civ.
Fortress
Kataparuto: A fast packing and unpacking Pantinlonlon mimic. Hits less powerfully, but is more managable. Also age 3 available by compare.
Siege Workshop
Hand Ram: The hand ram can beboth healed by healers and by repairing. Age 3: Buildings only.
Catapult: Basic, long ranged splash hitter that can hurt buildings too. Age 4.
Technology
Mostly vanilla. TC researched aging, though if you raid, you can increase the speed for every slain villager during the count up.
|||We cannot ignore Japan!|||Yeah! They should includ in this game every continents with great civilization of the ancient world. But I was thinking(again): Perhaps this game has 10-15 civs, maybe,do you think they should distribute the number of civilizations per continent equally or they should make like the World Cup,a continent with more vacancies than others? Excluding, the barbarian civs that imigrated for other lands.
|||Equal distribution wouldn't work well. Look at how many civs in AoE1 culminated in Mesopotamia... it's not difficult to see why.|||More Japan for you... do I have to call you viewerSan? desu?|||
I like it.
As I said in the other thread though, I would expand it into the Kofun period at least, AOE civs seems to do best with rough and non-specific time periods since it gives the Devs more freedom.
The problem with calling them Jomon is that the Jomon were an actual group of people distinct from the Yayoi AFAIK, so using specific ethnic names would be kinda unwieldy.
Yamato is a word that references not only the Yamato Period, but the Yamato people which is a pretty out-of-style name for the present day Japanese People and their ancient ancestors. I think that its use can be controversial these days though.
That being said, I like the units that you came up with.
