Zoom out more

AoE Online beta suffers from AoE3 syndrome: you can't zoom out very far. It makes it harder to strategize, and makes you click and scroll around more. To effectively manage my empire -- err, this is Age of "Empires", right? -- I need to view it on a macroscopic scale in addition to the more granular zoom it defaults to. I just feel a littleclaustrophobic because I can't zoom out more. And it perpetuates the carpal tunnel syndrome of AoE.

Very frustrating.

Honestly, does anyone even zoom in?? If so, why? What is the point of zooming in except to look at the pretty graphics? I see little or no strategic to zoom in, and several reasons to zoom out. Yet the game only lets you zoom in.

Duh. I forgot this for my wish list. Comeeeee-on. Game lets me zoom in so far I can see up their noses. :)

We don't need to be that zoomed in for this game. Do need zoom out when needed, like almost all the time.

Agreed.

This game is using old features from AoE3, that's probably why it's similar.

Let's say you have a 30 inch monitor. Doesn't giving you the ability to zoom out an advantage over players will a smaller monitor? If I recall correctly this was a reason to limit the zoom.

Zooming further out is something I would like!

When playing AoE, it's usefull having a clear overview.

i would also like to see a wider zoom and maybe also an option to enlarge the minimap a bit. It's so small, i often don't see enemies coming and also the red color of the fishplaces in the seas and the cows & berry bushes irritate too on the minimap. Should be an other color, red only for enemy.

There was a strategy-game which had a really cool feature, you could put a camera on a specific place which was always displayed on the bottom so you could see for if something happens on that place, e.g. placing a camera to towards your town center while you're in a battle or on a gold mine.

If everyone had the same zoom options it wouldn't make any difference what resolution you run, think about it.

I'd like a better zoom...

Strangely, this computer(using a 19 inch widescreen) can actually zoom out further on aoeo, than the system using a 22 inch widescreen.. not sure why that is, but i've noticed that when we both play, the larger screen seems limited zooming out, more so than this one(yes they're both set to their native resolutions).

I'd like to be able to zoom out much further personally, both in quests and outside.

I always loved the zoom in Supreme Commander, and it's the one thing i miss whenever i've been playing it and then switch to playing another RTS game.

If the pixel ratio is set to 100% instead of fixed numbers it will NOT matter what size your monitor is. Then set the zoom levels where zoom 1 = xx pixels and zoom 2 = xx pixels. Then it will auto adjust to your screen.

But yeah, I too agree the zoom needs to go out farther. The screen is busy with quests, information buttons, queued soldiers and so forth it cuts down the screen size. If you have 5 barracks side by side and wish to click them all you have to try hard to center them. Large armies of 70+ double clicking your army while moving may not guarantee all persons will be included in the group as they may not all fit on the screen.

This is very true since this is a strategy game/a tactical game,an RTS so you need to be able to see the big picture to plan ahead with better % of success.

The ability to zoom out further is very important to me,at least 2 clicks more zooming out is needed.

|||I definately still support what i said before, this game needs to allow those of us who want to zoom out further to do so, in an ideal world it would use something like SupCom, but of a more realistic nature i'd appreciate just being able to zoom out an extra 20 or 30%.
|||Absolutely! I am playing it on 1920 resolution on 42" and it looks stupid having a tower taking A4 page. Limitless zoom out or scaling would do.
